CocoChips

The coconut husk is the outer protective layer surrounding the inner nut. In nature, it safeguards the germinating seed by preventing excessive water absorption and resisting salt.

Composed of long fibers and sponge-like particles, the husk is processed into small pieces known as coco chips (distinct from edible coconut chips).

Coco chips are an excellent alternative to bark-based growing media, widely used in agriculture, particularly by orchid and cut-flower growers.

They offer superior water retention, consistency, and cost-effectiveness. Unlike bark, coco chips last over five years without degradation, making them a durable and sustainable choice for growers. Its strong resistance to fungi and bacteria, combined with natural deodorizing properties, makes it an ideal choice for animal bedding.

Applications

  • Growing Medium – Enhances aeration in grow bags.
  • Tropical Plant Substrate – Sustainable alternative to pine bark.

Grades based on CocoChips Size

Fine

The cube size ranges from 1/8 to ¼ inch, making it a suitable potting medium for many indoor foliage and tropical plants. While it offers excellent drainage and aeration, it is more compact than other grades and is not recommended for orchids. It is primarily used as crushed material in grow bags.

Small

Cube size ranges from ¼ to ½ inch, ideal for growing seedlings and plants like Paphiopedilum, Dendrobium, Cymbidium, Odontoglossums, Gerbera, and more.

Medium

Cube size ranges from ¾ to 1 inch, commonly used for growing Cymbidium, Cattleya, Phalaenopsis, and similar plants.

Large

Cube size ranges from 1 to 2 inches, primarily used in mixing with coir to enhance drainage and aeration.
